The pieces of the Olympic Dam project puzzle came together for a successful testing phase in the spring of 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the summer of 2021, that intricate puzzle of cutting-edge automation technology will be disassembled and shipped to Australia, where it is scheduled to be installed at the refinery by fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once operational at Olympic Dam, the EPCM technologies and procedures at the mine will increase efficiency and uptime by minimizing delays due to maintenance and safety issues.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.epcm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/EPCM_MAINTENANCE_PENDANT.jpg\" alt=\"Example of a maintenance pendant.\" class=\"wp-image-1200\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" title=\"- -\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.epcm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/EPCM_MAINTENANCE_PENDANT.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.epcm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/EPCM_MAINTENANCE_PENDANT-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.epcm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/EPCM_MAINTENANCE_PENDANT-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.epcm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/EPCM_MAINTENANCE_PENDANT-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Example of a maintenance pendant.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Unique to the EPCM technologies at the mine will be maintenance pendants, which minimize risk to maintenance employees by ensuring all safety protocols are followed. In the long term, that means lower costs for clients, and most importantly, safer conditions for Olympic Dam employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Olympic Dam retrofit is an example of how, with some ingenuity, older first-generation permanent cathode operations can be upgraded to state-of-the-art systems and lower costs at the same time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because we were able to design the new automation equipment to fit inside the existing structure, the refinery will be able to continue operation and not lose much operational time during the installation and commissioning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most important, though, the mine will be a much safer place for employees once the upgrade is completed, which benefits everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epcm.com\/es\/contactenos\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"16\">Cont\u00e1ctenos<\/a> \nsobre las m\u00e1quinas peladoras de c\u00e1todos de EPCM, como las que se instalar\u00e1n en Olympic Dam.
